The Mane Event

Sunday, March 19 - 12:30 - 4:30 pm

An adventure in colour and texture on fabric with Mary Pal

Cost: $75 (includes all supplies)

Remember Colour by Number? This is almost that easy, so perfect for someone who has never painted on fabric before.

Even complete beginners will learn how easy it is to add colour to fabric with water-soluble wax pastels and then embellish with texture by adding sculpted cheesecloth for the mane. Then you will mount your finished piece on  an 11x14 canvas panel, ready for framing.

Mary will provide the pattern, show you both her trademark technique of sculpting cheesecloth for the mane and how to achieve a luminous watercolour look on fabric. No sewing required!

Creative Free Style Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom

Saturday, March 25 - 10:30 - 12:30 pm

with Marie-France Gosselin of l'Atelier Weaving Studio

Cost: $60 (includes all supplies) Just show up and begin weaving!

All supplies provided. No experience necessary! This workshop is aimed at getting your creative juices flowing by weaving on a rigid heddle loom using various yarns and fibres. You will have an opportunity to explore different techniques and to play with texture.  You will learn the Saori approach (from Japan) of free style weaving and you will take home a unique small wall hanging.

Rigid heddle looms will be provided for the duration of the class.  All supplies are provided but feel free to bring some of your personal handspun yarns or special ribbons to include in your project to make it more personal.

If you own a rigid heddle loom but aren’t sure how to use it, or need a refresher course,  get some friendly, expert guidance as you discover that plain weave is anything but plain. This class will teach you to weave a simple woven scarf that is pretty enough to offer as a gift. You will learn to warp the loom, weave the scarf and add a beautiful fringe. If you don’t have a loom, you can rent one from the instructor if arranged prior to the class.

Please bring: a rigid heddle loom with a 7.5 d.p.i. reed and the necessary tools to directly warp the loom,

2 skeins of DK or worsted weight yarn (like Cascade 220) of two contrasting colours, in balls. (Skeins must be put in balls prior to class, please)

Scissors, measuring tape
